Is it time to change my monitor? Thank You BadBen nachtgeist 09-22-1999, 05:32 PM That's a distinct possibility. Have you tried "de-gaussing" your screen? (Usually there's a button on the front, and when you press it the display goes all funky for a second or two before clicking back into place.) Also, do you have anything that would produce a magnetic field (like a speaker) near the screen? Most computer speakers are shielded, but if you hold the front of the speaker to the screen you'll see what I mean. Other than that, when my display started looking like I was seeing everything through a fog, I called the manufacturer and sent it back to them. LazMan 09-22-1999, 06:15 PM Well, nachtgeist is correct about degaussing, but that usually isn't needed since most monitors, TVs and other video tubes already degauss themselves whenever the power is cycled. I've found that many times if the monitor has suddenly changed color, look at the back of your computer and check to see that the connector is fully connected. A loose connector can give all sorts of strange looking colors and shimmering effects. Some monitors do not have their own cables built into the chassis and require you to connect its cable to both the monitor and the computer. Make sure these connections are sound. If this doesn't solve the problem, it's time to consult the mighty orb. We would hope that this monitor in question is under warranty... Else, it's time to look at pricewatch for the best prices... Cheer up /forum/smile.gif Laz jeana 09-23-1999, 01:47 AM I posted this site a couple days ago, but it's worth repeating: http://plop.phys.cwru.edu/repairfaq/REPAIR/F_monfaq.html Hopefully, you'll find some likely causes of the monitor problem in this page, and judge for yourself whether it's worth fixing. LazMan's suggestion to check cable connections is a good place to start in any case. Underclocked 09-24-1999, 12:35 AM I just had to ship a monitor to Canada for warranty as it seemed my green gun had quit me. Turned out it was simply the connector gone bad. They replaced the cable and back she came good as ever. SysOpt.com
