Ok i've a problem in that my connection in that the last two nights my internet connection has been losing about 30% of it's packets. As you can guess i'm not impressed.

I'm running a diamond supraexpress 56i v+ and connecting to the local server at 33600 due to a analog exchange. During the day i've had no problem only at night and according to my IP there have been no other complaints and the lines arn't very busy.
(11pm when i rang them)

I ran a trace route to their main server and it "appears" that i'm losing the packets somewhere between the second server and the third.(The third server was the one i was pinging) When i ping web sites (ie yahoo.com) i'm picking up the packet loss only after the second server again.

What i'd like to know is there anyway i can work out whats going on? Chase down the problem further?

At this stage seeings i'm losing the packets between the second and third server i'm guessing that my side of things is ok and that they have a fault somewhere.

/forum/frown.gif Hope someone can help. Withdrawel's getting to me...

If you know how to tracert and read the results, then you've got the picture. It sounds as if your ISP has a problem - as it normally is the case /forum/smile.gif

There are other utilities, scan some of the common locals like 'download.com', etc (or using FTP look at wuarchive.wustl.edu) for some older network utilities that will do some fancy stuff. You could also go underground at some places like www.2600.com, if you dare, to find some covert sniffers and trackers.

Ever tried to convince your ISP that they have a problem with their setup?

I've made it to L3 tech support so hopefully i'm getting somewhere.

As a side note the L3 tech support guy told me to go download a program called ping plotter. Very useful tool if anyone want to track down packet/lag problems.
