I'm not even a religious person, and I've got to disagree with you there. They take the already-somewhat-far-fetched basis for Christianity and add a whole new layer of ridiculousness. j.m@talk 06-06-2005, 03:24 PM I dunno .......... Them chaps do me no harm :t ....... Scientology attempts to brainwash people into believing that 75 million years ago an evil dictator called Xenu brought 13.5 trillion aliens to Earth (which he called Teegeeack), blew them up in volcanoes, and drove them mad, and all of our problems are due to infestation with these invisible insane aliens, which Scientology can exorcise for around £350,000 So, get rid of our cute little invisible friends you have to "audit" each and every one of them to clear up their bad memories of what the nasty Galactic dictator Xenu did to them 75 million years ago. What a bunch of nutcases!!! Forgive me if it all sounds like some highly improbable plot from a 3rd rate author of cheap crappy sci-fi books who realised that no one bought his books and so decided to create a moneymaking religion to rake in the cash. Oh wait. I just described L Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology. A useless author who is on the record as saying that 'a great way to make money would be to create a religion'. http://www.jritson.demon.co.uk/bodythetan/ Picard 06-06-2005, 09:54 PM Originally posted by zybch You seemed to have forgotten scientology. Ron hubbard, you are reiterating what is written on that website you linked - your source - which is clearly fictitious comedy. getting back to the original topic, the "wacko" mormon church founder, it is hardly any different than how judaism was created - Moses and his vision of god, the burning bush, etc, which is the cornerstone of three major religions, inluding Islam, and Christianity. ScaryBinary 06-06-2005, 10:03 PM You should read Under the Banner of Heaven (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0385509510/qid=1118109589/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/104-0124734-3615961) by John Krakauer. Interesting read, that one. I have to agree with tantone here, Mormanism is slightly more wackier than your average run-of-the-mill organized religion. Though Scientology is right up there, too. And what's with all the Hollywood bozos adopting Scientology? That makes it seem even fishier.... zybch 06-06-2005, 10:24 PM Originally posted by Picard You are not describing L. Just do your own reaearch into scientology and you'll soon find out that everything you thought you knew about it doesn't touch anywhere near the reality of this money making organization. Why do you think that its banned in so many countries? Just google for "Truth about Scientology" I can only assume that you must be a scientologist if you think that what I posted was pure fictitious comedy, that or your one of the 2 people who saw and enjoyed Battlefield Earth tantone 06-06-2005, 10:24 PM Scientology is beyond ridiculous, and pretty much accepted as such by anyone with half a working frontal lobe. Mormons, however, have found their accepted place in the world. I work with Mormons who, when we travel for work, will go out of their way to stay at a Marriott (yep, Mormon owned). You should look into the FLDS church. These people are nuts!!! One guy, who was a real estate developer with tons of money, had donated millions to the church over his lifetime. One day, he disagreed with them on an issue and they went ballistic. They "re-assigned" his wife and children to his brother and banished him. There are police and sheriffs in predominantly Mormon FLDS areas who enforce the chuch law over the secular local/state/federal laws. Insane, I tell ya. ukulele 06-07-2005, 03:44 AM All I can say is they sure took a dump on Hawaii along with the Seventh Day Adventists, Baptists and Catholics. The only ones that seem to have had a really positive influence here is the Buddhists and the Baha'i faith. j.m@talk 06-07-2005, 08:18 PM Look at we scientologists :p SysOpt.com
