Well that blows... I wouldn't mind paying the extra $10-$20 if the games were of good quality, not only graphically but gameplay as well. Seems like 9/10 games out there have one or the other, but only a select few have both. If that same trend continues dispite the price premium, I'll have to be a lot pickier than I have been. I'm sure we can expect Sony and probably even Nintendo to follow this pricing pattern.

holy.. cow.. i think the xbox will attract those hardcore gamer.. btw spending $300 on a game console already consider hardcore gamer.. lol,.

It is really exciting how PS3 & nintendo will react to this news. O well it is M$ time to have their price that high since they hit the shelf before ps3, & nintendo...

$300 for one of these consoles really isn't "hardcore" when you consider that PC gamers spend that much, and sometimes twice as much (or possibly more if going SLI) for video cards alone.

No sir, its not until you factor in the cost of the HDTV that it becomes "hardcore" ;)

true.... $300 can't even buy the X800 or 6800GT..

i just bought a Geforce 6600GT for $170.. and it was just decent video card in the market..

Don't know where you shop but both those cards can be had for under $300.00.

I just saw a X800XT all in wonder going for $378.00,and a 6800GT for about $298.00. Both of these were put out by only one company...so maybe that is a come on for marketing.

Believe me the latest high enders aree coming down in price.

That console better be good or else the spendy game titles will noty survive ..nor the box.
Either way I could give a rats you know what.

Kids today are on computers alot earlier all the time and before long they will prefer the PC more over the other anyway ..or at least someday.;)

You might also want to remember that those are not the highest end cards available. There is the X850 XT PE and the 6800 Ultra which are considerably more than what you've got listed there. Not to mention, that with the console, you're getting the best GPU's currently out, while these guys are going to be a generation old in the very near future. Furthermore, even the not highest end and very near a generation old cards you did list still cost as much or more than the entire console (if indeed they will be around $300) and aren't nearly as powerfull.

Maybe the PC trend you are refferring to someday will happen, but as of right now, the trend is gong in the opposite direction. More games and gamers are turning to the console.

I don't see that big of a deal with a $60 price tag. It's not that big of a jump. For example HL2 for the PC is still selling for $55 retail. That's just the standard game. The collector's edition is $80. WOW is still at $50 and that's a game that requires a $10/month fee just to play.

Console games have the added advantage of being available for rental. While it might not seem as though MS would gain profit from rentals, stop and consider the liscensing fee rental stores/sites have to pay for each game they rent out. The advantage to the end user is being able to see if the game is actually worth the pricetag with a $2 rental fee and a few days of gaming.

I personally thought a price hike was eventually coming. Game development has come a long way from the old 5-10 men studios of the early 90's to the 100+ men studios we have today. Games now have multi-million dollar budgets, and someone has to pay for it. :( :D

I dont mind paying 60 bucks for a game, if I enjoy it and its made well then hey im all for it, 300 bucks is nothing for a console I paid 425 for my Video card, Video games are going up in price along with PC games, just like whats said above HL2 was selling for 54.99 is only a 5 dollor diffrence. the cost of putting a good game out for Gamers is getting higher our demand for better graphics better game play AI etc is pushing studios to the limit what was a 10 man job is now a 100 man job with a budget of 20 Million bucks instead of a few 100,000.

I think some games will cost $60 (the hot titles); madden, gta, ffXXX etc so the developers and rake in the movie millions of dollar$ on the game/hipe.

Other oddball games i think will be $50 range and below once they go onsale etc.

Im on a budget/tight when it comes to spending 300+$ on videocard, console or $60+ games. I like to dump my cash into my huge house/payments, take a trip, sat tv, internet and pc stuff.

So I'll be looking for onsale, used, or just rent.

$60 is £33 - I've seen tons of console games retail at £35+ ($63) over the past couple of years. It doesn't seem that bad really, as that will only be the absolute top end games or the new ones - after a while there'll be tons of cheaper games.

I'm not surprised by it. Although, someone who pays $60 for every game they buy, on a $300 console, needs some more sense and less money...

shoot.., I spend way too much time on this computer to justify gettihng another game device.

I have cable TV and computer and thats enough for me.

If for instance you have a family and kids like the one gentleman stated..then it would defintiely make sense. Or.., if you do not have a computer, can afford one then it would be good i suppose.

I'd never leave my room if I had both plus Cable TV.

And..., who can afford all that a computer entails and the upgrades in HW and spend money on both devices for games...

Again, just my opinion.. its a free country still... I hope;)
