My cd-rom supports udma as well as my hard drive but it doesnt show up in their properties under options (with the check box). I remember seeing the box being checked off before for at least my cd-rom. Is it a big deal if it is there or not? thanks

Most options, though listed as being supported by some device, are not user selectable under Windoze. The general idea, I've determined, is that the user is assumed to be a gorilla and doesn't possess the knowledge nor skill enough to be able to make the correct choices in optimizing the proper transport mechanism driving devices. That's what device drivers are used for - most of them do not provide for any type of user intervention and opt for builtin optimization techniques based on what the designers assume is the most common methodology at the moment (hence the reason some drivers are updated often - the designers do not possess the knowledge above the gorilla, either).
The general answer to your question - don't worry about it. Your driver for your CD is using the best choice it has deemed available to it and is running 'mauvelous, just mauvelous' /forum/smile.gif
