Well, the card looks great.. only 1 problem, after running a game that uses open gl for around 5 minutes, it locks up and there is this loud screeching noise. I have gotten all the new drivers Creative provides, and it still does it, then i got the Detanator drivers, and it STILL does it. Someone help me? (My system: Celeron 500, 128mb sd pc100, Win 95)

I guesss u're system locksup because the cpu is overclocked try downclocking it

You do not have the updated AGP patch for your chipset. No TNT2/Voodoo3 card will work properly until you get it. If you have the Ali Alladin V chipset, go here to get the patch.

Is it Creative Labs card by any chance? /forum/smile.gif Mine did the same thing until i installed a card cooler from http://www.2cooltek.com The card was overheating like hell... Touch the back of your video processor and you should feel whether you need additional cooling.

Heat is all! You need better cooling.

There is no AGP patch needed for an Intel motherboard, just the proper drivers for Win95 (Win98 is much better for AGP). Just having it work means you have the drivers installed correctly.

I am overclocking my CPU 450/558 and overclocking the CL TNT2U (175core/200mem) and I run stable all night long in high FPS games (KingPin, Q3Test, Q2, Half Life, etc.....)

It's all about cooling!

( or having a bad card )

About the cooling problem, that stinks.. that solution requires money... ah well.. Maybe I should try the V3 3500.. havent heard much about that.. that or i could take out that big black hunk on my desk and put a fan on the cpu.. my case is always open anyway.. hehe..

I dont know if its heat.. just touched the back of my card.. and its warm, but no where near hot. Maybe ill go play System Shock 2 for a couple of minutes..

Ok, I dont think heat is the problem. I put my big fan on it, played a game untill it locked up (about 5 mins.), and then i touched the riva tnt 2, cold. Not even warm. Sooo.. any more ideas? My MB is a dtk PRM-891, if that helps.

Make sure you are not using video shawdowing and video caching. Also make sure you are assigning an IRQ to your video card. The TNT-2 will work with and without these optins, but compatiblity problems arise. These are the recommended defualts accordsing to nVidia. These options are found in your bios setup. For compatibility, the 2.08 reference drivers from nVidia are the best so far for the CL TNT-2. As for screeching sound, I don't have a clue.

Ok, I'll go take a look at that. Also, in my bios, it has something about AGP Ram: 128 or something. Now, i DO have 128mb of SDram, but would that count as AGP? Wouldnt AGP be 32 because of my Video card? Here's what I'm thinking (though probably way off): The setting gets my SD and TNT2-on board ram confused, therefore while playing a game that requires extensive graphics, when it reachs for that extra 96 megs, its not there, making it lock up.

That setting determines how much system memory your video subsystem can use to do AGP texturing. Many people argue about what to set this to. I usually just set it equal the amount of memory my system has, no prob's yet. Plus are you running a true Celeron 500, ar a cpu overclocked near 500. The TNT-2 chipset isn;t stable with o/c'd AGP buses. If your running the default 66mhz or even 100mhz, then you should have no problem at all.

True Celeron 500. Nothin is overclocked. Any more suggestions?

Take it out, firmly replace it, then reinstall the reference drivers. Other than this, sounds like you have a defective video card (very unusual, but can happen). One more question, I assume you are using an Intel bx chipset motherboard. If you are using a VIA slot 1 m/b, check their site for updated AGP drivers. VIA uses about the same AGP interface for all of its designs, super7 and slot 1. Also, some older slot 1 m/b's couldn't supply enough amperage to the AGP slot to power some of the newer cards, but this should be limited to the LX chipset designs.

Well, all new celerons (433+) are slot 370. Soo.. no, I dont have a Slot 1. Also, my mother board is a dtk PRM-891. I already checked dtk's site for an update for drivers, but they dont have any. Now, the Riva TNT 2 Ultra runs as a PRIMARY video card, so I can't imagine its defective.. also, I can play games at open gl, just not for very long before it locks up. I think it's time to give CL a call, but thanks for all the suggestions, you guys. (I hate calling technical support..)

Oh yeah, and my MB is a BX. But, I run at 115V, is that enough? Maybe I should turn the voltage up? Would that hurt anything?

WAIT! One more important thing before I resort to TS, I DO have a conflict with IRQ, its between the CL TNT 2 and my PCI Standard PCI to PCI bridge (<-- aint got NO idea what that is). But, when I go into Device Manager it doesnt report the error with a !. The only way i found it out was by double clicking on the thing. Now, I assumed it wasnt a big thing cause it didnt have a ! thing markine a conflict, but, maybe it is. When i remove the PCI thing, it screws up my graphics and wont let me use my TNT 2. Any ideas now?

Under your bios, see if you den't have and option to make all your IRQ's directly controlled by Win9x. It should say "Plug and Play OS" Enable it. Also reset configuration data, this option should be near the one above. Hopefully this will help, because Creative's Tech support is extremely slow, and they'll probably tell you to call the system manufacturer, or even worse, the m/b manufacturer. Good Luck, and I hope it works out for you.
