I have a video file that I shot with my camera. Kodak 6490 4mp. Kodak uses "quicktime" to handle their video stuff. But when i go to play the video it tells me the file is "Not Supported" ??

I have installed "Quicktime" twice now. To make sure it there and working. THe file format is "mov" I need some program (preferred FREE) to convert this file to something I can play and burn to a CD.

I need some help here. I have tried a couple free converters I found online and they don't want to read the file. One says , "floating point error", another says "not a reconnized format".

I'm lost here.....

Thanks for any advice......

Sounds like the .MOV is corrupted. It beats me why camera makers still use such a cruddy standard instead of MPEG4 like DivX or Xvid which make smaller files with better quality and are far more easily recoverable should the file be slightly damaged.

Have you tried WinAvi? (http://www.winavi.com)
There is a trial you can download, but even that will be of little use of the file is damaged.
Have you tried transferring the file from the camera to your PC again?
Does the camera play back the movie?

I tried WInAVI but the it tells me "failed to initalize" and stops.

Also tells me about RealMedia codec..... is that "RealPlayer" codec?

I deleted the pics and video after I downloaded them from my camera...DOH !! First mistake......

I guess that the video is corrupt....:(

Looks that way.
I'm paranoid about this type of thing happening, I always test everything to make sure it gets transferred properly, be it a video, DVD, Image etc.

I assume you followed the camera makers instructions for playback. Some are very specific about the player. I was bummed to find out my camera movies cannot be edited by Adobe Editing software after buying the suite. It was avi file format but only 12 frames per second which was not supported. :(

I contacted Kodak and they gave me things to do and nothing worked so I guess my video is HOSED!!

Is there another format software that will work with Kodak camera instead of their crappy ol' software?

Thanks for all the help guys.....

Use explorer to move files on or off the camera. Their software is lame.

Are you sure? Look for a removable drive when the usb is plugged in and the camera in on. Now if you are using parallel that might be different.

Unfortunatley the Kodak software is just a big bloated piece of poo. Thats why I recomend Canon cameras, just plug em in and windows does the rest without any invasive software, pity they still use quicktime for video though :(

Well I can chalk this one up to a lesson learned......

Agreed Kodak software is poop AT BEST!!!

I tried to contact Kodak about using other software and I haven't heard back from them.

Thanks:t

Fuji makes even better cameras for the price IMO. I don't know what the problem is with the Kodak software but I am not suprised. Kodak never did make good cameras. If it has removable memory cards try an external card reader. I don't know what else to suggest.
