A law letting people in Florida kill in self-defence on the street without first trying to flee an attacker has been passed by Florida politicians.
Why am I not suprised a Bush is involved in this.

Personally, I will not blame Bush for this.
I have watched this coming on for several years. Anybody that is anywhere near civilized, knows to not walk the streets of Miami without protection, firearms or other.
I worked in South Florida in the early 80's, and there is no way in Hades I would have been out on the streets after dark in or near Miami without being armed to the teeth, and that was close to 25 years ago.
I was a Foreman at the time for the RR, and the only way we could keep the street gangs away from our work area was to display firearms... I was dang near fired because of it, and would have been except I drove my own vehicle, so I did not violate any company rules about having firearms in their vehicles.
I also had two dummy grenades hung on my belt... I had a wooden box with Dynamite printed on it..it was filled with red RR fusee's ...each one looks like a stick of dynamite at a distance.
Florida has gone to he** in a handbasket IMO... I would not live there again if someone gave me the property
About as soon as the Spanish speaking peoples of Florida and elsewhere bust the SS and other freebies, they may want to form an army and retake their own government...there is more Cubans in So. Florida than there are in Cuba it seems.

Do you ppl not realize that Florida is simply bringing their state laws in line with that of most of the other states? Simply because it requires a change to do it, everyone has their panties in a wad. You only run from a fight when there's no way you can win. The goal is to survive to fight another day, not survive to run another day.
And you brits...who the hell cares what you think you spit-wad toting pacifists. :p

But where do you draw the line? Of course everyone knows that if your life is under immediate thread by someone, you could probably kill them and the courts won't call you a murderer. Now in Florida, you have a law spelling out that says its ok to shoot in self-defense. I wouldn't be suprised if the number of 'self-defense' killings rises because of this.
This paves the way down the line for a law to be passed which says its ok to shoot if you think your life is being threatened, not just if it is immediately threatened...which paves the way for passing a law which states its ok to shoot at someone if they give you the 'evil eye'...
Of course it (probably) won't happen like that, but it could...I guess my biggest problem is 'why did this law need to be written?'

Check your state laws. If my life is in immediate danger (i.e. zybch approaching me with a purple dress on holding a large elephant rifle), I don't want to have to run first before I cap him.

Everyone seems to be missing the point.
Your city, State or Country is in very bad shape when its citizens need to carry guns around with them just so they will be safe.

it's not just to be safe, it's to reduce crime. criminals can't have guns, so now that civilians has the right to shoot if treating, the criminals will think twice before mess around with civilians...
