I've decided its time for me to stop being just another dance music fan and get off my backside and get into the world of beat-matching/mixing. However, i dotn really know of anyone personally who can teach me or poitn me in the right direction, nor can i afford anything particularly expensive in terms of hardware.
As such i was planning on picking up a Hercules DJ Console for about £150 and doing it via that and a PC load of MP3's and software. However, i need all the help i can get. As such, i'd be really greatful if someone could point me in the right direction in terms of what i need both equipment and software wise and as regards tutorials and actually learning the process itself.
Many thanks in advance

My brother was a DJ in bars and had his own business for a couple of years.
If you want to do parties, wedding receptions and whatever, you need to have a HUGH song collection. And you need to be Good with it. You need to be able to set moods and change moods. A “sweet sixteen” birthday dance crowd listens to much different music than a wedding reception for 40 year olds.
Rock bands and such can rent equipment as needed for different jigs. You can too. Can work your way up to being able to do fancy light shows too.
You can start off with used equipment found at pawn shops.
Considered karaoke.
Look for a partner/photographer to record the event. I used to photograph weddings and might get back into it. There’s big time money to be made. Contact wedding planning type companies to offer your services. You can start off real small till you get your feet wet. Some people budget $300 USD for music at weddings and some budget $3000.
But you need to be able to jam and make a place rock for 3 to 5 hours with all types of music. Depending on many factors, the music just needs to be loud without distortion. You can upgrade and get the quality of the equipment up as you go. You need backup equipment.
When you get to the point of charging a lot you need to look in to insurance. “Failure to Perform” at an event that was booked several months in advance is not a pretty site.
Contact DJ companies and look for part time work to gain experience. Big or popular DJ’s have minimum prices that are too high for many. But if they know this guy name Jak…..
