I just ran a benchmark (SiSoft) on my system (AMD K62 300 on an FIC 503+
motherboard with VIA MVP3 chipset) and was disappointed. It says my cpu memory bandwidth sucks
and the front side bus is only 66 MHz. I have the jumpers set for 100 MHz front
side bus and have Toshiba PC100 RAM. AMD says the CPU I have is 100 MHz
bus capable. The PCI and AGP busses clocked at 22 and 44MHz (bad). So I set
the motherboard jumpers for all sorts of various settings and could never get
more than a 66MHz front side bus rating. So I set it for 66 MHz front side bus
with a cpu clock multiplier of 5 (yeah, I got pissed off and overclocked the cpu
but it works fine). Now my PCI and AGP busses bench at 34 and 68MHz, which
makes me happy, but my cpu memory bandwidth REALLY sucks now. (I also
clocked the RAM down to 66MHz to match the bus speed). Something is wrong
here but I'm not sure what. The proper setting is for 100MHz RAM, 100MHz
front side bus with a cpu multiplier of 3 - but I can't get a decent benchmark
out of that. Has anyone run into this kind of thing? How can I figure out where
the problem is? Defective motherboard, CPU, or RAM I would guess - but which
one? I trust the benchmark program as it works well on other systems.

I tried the same program to benkmark my personal system, and its memory tests yielded really low results. I have the same chipset on my AZZA pt5-vml. Try a different benchmark, such as wintune. http://wintune.winmag.com/

I have that mobo with a K6-2 350. I've used SiSoft Sandra and it verifies my setup. The only problems I've ever had are user error. I'm constantly getting the frequency/multiplier jumpers confused and setting them up wrong. I don't know why I have this problem, but double check everything you do and make sure you've got the jumpers set correctly. I find them easy to confuse. I've run this board at all bus speeds (couldn't get 124MHz bus to boot, don't know anybody who has), but 75,83,95,100,112 all work well. Get the latest flash bios and make sure you have your memory timing set correctly. Just recheck your work. I've looked at the manual, then at the mobo, then at the manual, then at the mobo and still have set the jumpers wrong.

Hello Surfbum,

YEP, I have two of those boards one early revision and one late, and I can echo what scourge has so tactfully stated; there are quite afew jumpers on this board and it can be very confusing.

SiSoft reports back the correct information for me, but the memory bandwidth is a little low as compared with an Intel system. Part of this is true, and part of this is due to the benchmarking program itself. Do you have the latest version of SiSoft?
