Well,
With PS3 not shipping out for a year (http://blogs.pcworld.com/staffblog/archives/000670.html) ...at best, I doubt they'd pre-order until 6 months out
Unknown release date on the XBox 360 (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox360/factsheet.htm) ...although Christmas may not be a bad bet
...same with Nintendo (http://www.nintendo.com/newsmain) (they don't even have a coined name for it I believe)
I wouldn't pre-order now unless you see it on a qualified reseller's webpage or advertising. Anyone offering now could just be looking for a quick way to get your money, phish or pharm you...

The earliest I suppose you could pre-order consoles and such would be the end of summer (late August). That seems like a safe bet (gives me a chance to work this summer for one ;)).

That is pretty smart. That way you won't be swamped down with the cost of a $300 console, I might just have to do that. :t
