I am going to build my first 64bit PC soon, using a AMD 64 3500+ (venice). I know about trading my XP pro for XP 64bit (beta) but when the official is released can I get that for free?

Will I have to pay again to get the 64 bit Windows or will it be free for people with XP Pro 32bit licences?

If I am going to have to pay separate for the XP 64bit when it is released I will wait a while and just buy XP pro 64bit instead of buying the 32bit then 64bit aswell.

XP 64 bit was release last month and I have already ordered my copy and traded in my 32 bit license. The order is still pending shipment.

It will cost $12 for shipping.

So is it out to general sale?

I have not ordered the pc parts or the copy of XP yet, so should I wait then buy the 64bit version of windows?

Is that $12 shipping to UK? Will microsoft ship to UK?

Sorry about that.... I have found it open to sale. I won't need to trade in a copy just buy the 64bit version straight off.

Are drivers all secure for 64bit xp now?

I will be buying a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum SKT 939 Nforce3 . If i stick to my current spec i am planning to order.

The MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum SKT 939 Nforce3 dosnt seem to offer drivers for Win XP X64

honestly, I think you should just use the 32-bit version for now. there aren't a lot of applications or games that take advantage of it (Farcry is one). read up on it before you decide.

Thanks... some good reads there (still reading though)

This PC is going to be sold to someone who will not be gaming with it. It is a PC for his work and will mainly run it for image processing (professional quality). Does this effect your opinion on wether to get x64 or not.

The reviews your posted seem to emphasise that several applications have trouble running on XP X64. If this is so i will definatly not run it on a PC I am selling as I dont want them runnning into problems.

P.S. Though this was kinda funny
When we tried to run Windows Update from the Control Panel, Windows launched a 64-bit browser, then relaunched the 32-bit browser, since Microsoft's Update plug-in currently supports only 32-bit.

unless there is a compelling reason to go with 64-bit (need more than 4GB ram, specific applications like CAD, etc.), then stick with winxp32. you don't want to make your customer a guinea pig, especially if they don't need 64-bit.
