Is it possible to use 72 pin dimms (3.3v) with 168 pin SDRAM. I have 2 mobos that will except these memory chips, but I don't know if they will work together. My Giga-byte GA5-AX has 64 mgs PC100 SDRAM and my husbands TXPro II has 32 mgs PC66 SDRAM. I have two 8 meg 72 pin dimms that I would like to use, rather than just let it sit with my other leftover computer components. Can anyone advise me on this matter? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Thanks, jbyron. It is encouraging to know that they will work together on some machines.

Go ahead and put them both in. When your 64meg DIMM blows up from incorrect voltage, you can always buy more.

In other words, don't mix the two.

Good news! The TXPro II m567 does support mixed ram. It accepted 24 mgs of the 32 that I wanted to add. the machine now has 56 mgs. I'm not sure why it would not accept the remaining 8 mgs but it would not. The memory I added all runs at 3.3 volts. The configuration is 32 mgs 10ns PC66 sdram in dimm 2 and 8mgs 60ns FP ram each in simms 1,2,3,4. It will not recognize the 8 mg stick in simms 2. I have confirmed that the stick is good by swapping them around. Does anyone have any ideas how to make it recognize that last 8 mgs in simms 2? Thanks for any help you can give me.

What operating system are you using? I had some trouble adding memory to a computer running Win98 until I went to Start, then Run, and typed "msconfig" in the box. Clicking "Advanced", I found that memory had been limited to 64MB! Of course I raised the limit. Upon my word I don't know why this option exists.

Jeana, I am using Windows 95a. I probably will reformat the hard drive and install Windows 95c but I was hopeing I could get alomg with the older version since all of the component on the computer are of the older versions. I don't have Windows 98 and I haven't seen enough need to get it yet. Thanks for the response. I'm beginning to wonder if the simms slot might be bad.

you lucked out..most boards will not accept memory populated in the same banks.....sounds as if the Dimm's and some of your Simm's are in the same banks....

Fix-it, The manual shows that I should be able to use all slots except Simms 1 and Dimms 1 together. The only slot I am not using is Dimm 1. I'm happy enough with the 56 mgs but was just hopeing to find a way to use the last 8 mgs. Thanks for the response.
