i have a affrey 40x CD-Rom
Some UBl PRO speakers that came with my compaq MV520 monitor
Sound blaster Live!! Value

Why does the CD sound only play in the left speker and not both?
MP3s and game sounds work in both speakers. does anyone know about this kind of stuff? cuz i dont

does the sound only come out of the left speaker when you play audio cds, or does it do that all the time, like even when you play .wav files off your computer?

Check your connectors and cables between the CDROM and sound card. Be sure they are the correct type and attached correctly.

drdeath makes a valid point about wether or not the problem occurs on just audio cd's or does it also occur on .wav and .mid files.

I suspect you have bad connections between the CDROM and sound card. Does your CDROM have a headphone jack on front? If so, try connecting your speakers directly to the CDROM and see if that helps. Also try a different cable internally.

Hope this helps!
Good Luck!

Whoa sweet. i connected one of my speaker cords directly to the CD-ROM headphon jack. and CD works. but does that mean im not using my sound blaster live? and when i do put it direct to my CD-ROm i dont get other PC sounds.
i checked my connections to the CD-rom from soundcard before and double checked. But what would that do? one speaker still plays. im thinking its my speakers or my SBL now.
more help will be nice
thanks!!

wav files do work, when i have downloaded them.
and one more thing about internal connections. on the soundblaster there is only 1 thing in the correct size that fits into the CD-ROM.

you say you have a Sound blaster live value. It has connectors that say TAD, CD, AUX and then you even have the "digital" connector that only uses 2 wires...Which type of cable are you using and to what connector are you connected to?

The connectors themselves may fit into the connectors on the sound card and the CD drive, but make sure that the pins in the connectors are in the right place. I remember setting up the sound card in a computer, and I had to re-arrange the pins. They should be labelled on the sound card and the CD drive. Red is usually right, white is usually left, and black is usually common (1 or 2 of these). Hope this helps... Good luck.

most cables from the cdrom use rggl
some use rglg
and the same with the plugs on the sound card
if you only have sound from one chanel from the cdrom but both with other sounds as you say it would be the cable from the cdrom to the sound card as ELI said
I've hsd to chang a few pines for the cd to play both chanels
