I have Windows XP Home w/SP1A on a Delll 8200
By default windows likes to open .jpeg & .jpg with Picture Viewer
I set it in "tools, folder options, file types" to use Photoshop as
the default

Here is the problem:

When it is set this way, after I do a Rename of the .jpg file,
I usually point my mouse to a blank area of the screen, and
hit Left Click .. what this does is make the thumbnail half size
until I do a Refresh Thumbnail or exit and review that directory

It does not do that if I leave the image type set to Picture Viewer

How can I make it work the correct way with Photoshop ? (which is my preferred program) (mouse is Microsoft Optical with Intellipoint 4.0)

Thanks

Try setting in PS properties so that jpg's are associated with PS, also u can use PS browser, file > browser. The only problem with the PS browser it caches all thumbnails to a folder in documents an settings > user > Application Data > Adobe > FileBrowser > Photoshop#, this can get realy big, so clear if it gets too big....
