Dear fellow computer nutz:

One morning I woke up (finally) and started seeing "PC100" memory advertised and otherwise written about. Is PC100 memory different that SDRAM? Like the proverbial "next step up?"

Thanks!

PC100 is SDRAM but at 100MHz. regular SDRAM or at leaast the first SDRAM was at 66MHz. There is now 133MHz and 150MHz from hwat I understand.

Yes,100 memory is the next step up(in SDRAM),however,it's recently been replaced with 133.However,133 is the "cutting edge" of ram now.(excluding RDRAM,etc.).If your looking to go to 133,your CPU,MB,HD,and especially your video card have to be compatible....be careful and resurch first....DawgTuff.

PC100 SDRAM meets a standard set by Intel and bears a label reading PC-100 abc-xyz, where the letters are numbers that define certain characteristics of the stick.

PC133 is a standard adopted by a consortium of memory makers and vendors. Intel stayed out of the loop and is heading for support of RAMBUS RAM.

Some pre-PC100 sticks will go higher than 100. Some PC100s will go 133. It all depends on the quality of the individual storage chips used.
