PC Milton is trained in advanced driving and was "familiarising" himself with a new car, the court was told.

The officer, who is also trained in the use of firearms, was recorded travelling at 159mph on the motorway near Telford in the early hours of 5 December 2003.

So does that means if he shoots someone he'll get off scott free because he was just familiarising himself with a new gun?!
He could almost be eligable to join the aussie police force.

You can't win can you, unless you are in the police yourself.

I have just paid a fixed penalty fine and got points on my licence for doing 39 in a 30 mph limit, caught on a camera, fair enough I broke the law but I would not consider myself a fast driver.

What really pees me off is only the week before what should I see coming towards me at high speed but car with no lights on, I flashed my headlights rapidly only to discover it was a police car, we both took evasive action. Now had I been in the car with no lights on you can bet your bottom dollar I would have got done.

In the UK last year the police collected over 1 Billion Pounds Stirling, yes over 1 Billion Pounds not Dollars just from unmanned cameras set up to catch normally law abiding people, what happens to all this money I don't know, as the UK is one of the most dangerous places from a crime point of view of anywhere in the western world.

Its also been proved that these unmanned cameras do not reduce road accidents, they are just there as another way of collecting a stealth tax.

The UK has more surveillance cameras in place than any other country on this earth including the USA, in todays climate terrorism etc. is probably a good thing but I think it is wrong they use them to rob the general public and do nothing to improve relations with the police.

YOu speed u get caught your stupid you break the law you get fined. YOu cant blame a speed camera. that is just childish and stupid. Speed camera in the UK are coloured in FLouresecent paint! The also have line on the road telling you when they start and stop measuring your speed. YOu are either in a helluva rush and dont care or you are just stupid to get caught.

If the camera is hidden and the road isn't marked then contest your fine

Sorry but as by implication you are stating I'm stupid and thereby taking a superior stance, you must know more about this subject than I, if you take the time to re-read my post you will see I was not arguing the fact that I exceeded the speed limit (although I don't think any normal person would see 39 mph as going over the top) I was just bringing to the readers attention a few facts which might inspire an intelligent conversation, looks like I failed.

Well if somebody you love is killed by a motorist that is going 39mph but if that motorist was going 30mph that person would have lived, then I am sure you would think that 39mph is over the top.

I read a statistic that every mph you go over teh speed limit the chance of a person dying in a collision is increased by 5%!

Sure it was all fine you broke the law it was a victimless crime but, could you live with killing somebody....

Hence i beleive speeding is stupid...

But getting caught is ever more so...:p

Right.....that really hurt.... (Sarcasm)

I use AOL for a reason. i.e. the fact I've had the same email address for about 8 years now and don't want to go around giving everybody a new one. I have never had any trouble with AOL. It give me a good cheap broadband service with no download limits. and I'm getting upgraded to 2 meg in July for no extra cost and no download caps...

But this has what to do with speeding?

I'm all for road cameras, cameras at traffic lights, etc. to catch folks who break traffic laws. I got a speeding ticket in the mail about 6 years ago at home in the states from Canada. I'd rented a car to go from Calgary to Lake Louise and one of their aircraft got me. I started laughing when I got the pic of the license plate with the ticket. Busted!!

Oz has the most speed (not surveillance cameras) per head of population. As you've said, they do absolutley nothing to reduce accidents and deaths, they are all just revenue raisers for the government.
As for surveillance cameras being good for anti-terrorism purposes, don't make me laugh. They didn't help at all in the CS gas incident in London's underground recently did they.
They are there to spy on honest citizens.

George Orwell is revolving in his grave at electricity generating speeds, its not the Big Brother he imagined, but something far worse. However the last line in his book 1984 is still perfectly suitable.

"He loved Big Brother".

And we do. We honestly believe that our govts are protecting us, and nothing can be further from the truth.

Its the only thing I can look forward to.
Each second that I'm alive means I'm also 1 second closer to death.
My shrink said that its not a very healthy way to look at life and upped my dosage :(
Now the extra side effects of the increased dosage makes me want to die even sooner. Just so long as I can't take a few with me when I go. Preferably kids, as I really hate kids and want to see them all buried up to their knees in cement.
