I was fixing a computer today and well windows had basically died. The regitry was so messed up it wouldnt boot. It tried to run Scandisk and it would find so many directory errors and it couldnt correct some of them so I decided to format the hd. So I format the HD to bad sectors. I run fdisk delete the partition because windows98 wasnt loading. Re made the partition and reformatted. It took 6hrs to format the HD!!!!! Then I tried to install windows again and it said the FAT partition is messed up. Why is that? I think the HD is messed.. could that be? It cant boot of the HD either I put the command.com on c: but it still doesnt boot it cant boot without the win98 floppy. Any idea's? I can just order a new one if that one is dead. Can it be repaired? If it can I get a new hd.. hehe the guy said order a new one and I did so thats coming in but I want to know if I can use this HD or not.

Try zeroing or low level formatting the drive. I've had this problem before and it's a ***** trying to get around it.

Good Luck!
