Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : CDRW problem...
I just installed a Mitsumi 4x2x8 CDRW in my computer, and I've burned a couple of disks so far. My problem is that it seems to be dropping the occasional file. Immediatly after I copy some files off my hard drive, I check the number of files and the combined size and everything is fine. Then DirectCD closes the session and makes it readable in other drives or something before it'll eject, and some files disappear. They don't show up, no matter which drive I use. Out of around 4000 files, maybe 20 have vanished. Any ideas? I'm using Adaptec DirectCD, and Kodak CD-Rs. Thanks.

Eli,
Since you do have the Adaptec software I would suggest that you use the Ez CD Creator software as it is much better than DirectCD! and you can even have it do a "test burn" before the actual burn to see if it will complete correctly (this does double the time to make a cd so I only did this a couple of times until I knew my CD burner was working properly).

ELI, you may be confusing CDFS and FAT allocation methods. If you compare the contents of a CD to the contents of the data saved to your drive from that same CD, you will notice the data on the drive takes up more space. It's just the way the file system reports data!
BTW: I do not like DirectCD, EZ-CD is the way to go!

I was comapring the size of the files, not the actual space they take up, as well as comparing the number of files. I'll try EZ-CD again, but the testing phase locked up on my first attempt... It passed (I think) on the second try. Thanks for the suggestion though. Any idea why the files were accounted for, but disappeared after the session was closed?

maybe its just a temp table of contents or something...cuz you can only write to the TOC once
