when i try to upgrade my bios i get a message that says "boot sector is
different"then lists a number like boot sector 8c347" is it safe to go ahead and
update?

If you are flashing either from a final bios image to a beta, or beta to a final, you'll get the warning message. I've never had any problems flashing back and forth between them though.
