Just got my hands on a Compaq DeskPro XL5133 sans the CDROM drive. I have the drive but am wondering what sort of cable I will need to connect it to the motherboard?
The connector on the CDROM drive is a regular 40pin connector while on the motherboard I have a 4 wires sticking out labled CDROM. The cable I have is 40pin on either end. Thanks.

The wires sticking out are probably audio cables for your cdrom to connect it to your soundcard. You need to plug the ide (40pin) cable into your motherboard in the secondary ide slot. If this slot is already full either because you have more than one hard drive or a zip drive or something, then you will have to connect your cdrom as a slave. to do this you will need an ide cable with three connectors on it, one to plug into the mobo, one for the hardrive, and one for the cdrom. If you use this configuration make sure that the cdrom drive is jumpered as slave. If the cdrom is to be on it's own ide channel, make sure it is jumpered as master. (most cdroms are jumpered as slave from the factory)
