I have a laptop that came with Windows XP Home Edition. I need to install XP Professional on this machine, and I have a CD.

I need to know if I can install XP Professional on top of the exisiting XP Home installation without running into problems. I'd like to get the features of XP Professional without losing any of my document files or drivers in the process.

Is this possible, or do I need to reformat the hard drive and do a clean install of XP Professional to get this to work?

Thanks much!!

So how would I do this?

Would I just boot from the CD, and then install the XP Pro on the same partition that has the XP Home on it?

yep, but when u put the cd in, instead of Instal or repair there will also be a third option which says "ungrade"
Choose this so all your settings, and files remain intact

Better yet, just boot into the current OS, and put the XP Pro cd in the drive. It will load up, and ask you if you want to upgrade.
