This is why it's a good thing to have a backup puter! Now, don't you feel better? /forum/wink.gif

Maybe you have a magnetic personality! /forum/smile.gif

800XL, I sort of have that effect in reverse /forum/smile.gif. "Dead" components come back to life if I work with them. I guess computers (and all electronic equipment) just like me.

Speaking of people with magnetic problems...

A friend has a lot of trouble with floppy disks mysteriously going blank - has to be him, it's been going on in two houses and several computers now.

Got bad enough he stored backups here & would bring the original (now blank) to be recopied.
I came up with the idea to copy each disk to separate directory on hd, then burn cdr. Now all he does is copy it back from the cd & change the "read only" attribute which is set when cdr is burned.
He still blanks disk & we've never figured out why, but at least this system works! Plus, we don't seem to be using too many floppies these days!

I'm one of the PC resurrectors myself. The dead walk, the sick are healed, and the blind see, etc, etc. My 'magnetic' friend and I make a great team. He is the best stress test I can think of for a piece of hardware or software. If he can hop on my machine and nothing goes wrong, I know it would be solid for years. Who needs Prime95 to test overclocked CPUs, not me. /forum/wink.gifConversely, I help him find the random factor that keeps his stuff from being stable for him.

I honestly believe the personal electromagnetic field theory. My girlfriend has terrible trouble with watches. Wind up watches wind down in less than a day on her arm, and go for a month sitting on her nightstand. Digital watch batteries go dead inside a couple months if she wears it, but will last forever if she does not. Some people are just strange that way.

I personally have no problems with watches/electronics. They seem to 'like' me. I am however prone to electrical shocks. I discharge static by accident about 20-30 times a day unless it is very humid. On the plus side, electric shock does not bother me much. Household current (120-120V AC) bites me, but not badly enough to really cause great discomfort. I will sometimes test the spark on car/truck motors by grabbing a spark plug wire and a ground. Anyone remember that TV show 'Misfits'?

I think some people just have a disturbing electromagnetic field that causes damage to computer equipment. A friend of mine used to kill something almost monthly. It was strange though. I would take his dead parts, test them(indeed, they were dead), then let them sit away from him for a month and somehow life came back into them. Voodoo and exorcisms have their place in modern society I guess.
