Star wars episode III comes out 19 May. To get this leave date to go home I said it was a once in a lifetime event. Doing so I took the place of a person who was going to see there son graduate from high school. All I want to know is, was this wrong?:D

IMO, yes. The movie will still be available when you get around to seeing it. The graduation and the support of the kids dad at his graduation is a real "once in a lifetime" event.

If you can live with it though I have no problem with it. It is all about seniority and who applied for leave first. If he applied first and you bumped him, then you are a rat.:D

To think a stupid movie is more important than a person seeing their child graduate makes you more arrogant than most I have met.

Tell us why you think seeing a movie is more important than a parent seeing their child graduate! One is a once in a lifetime opportunity the other can seen be seen anytime.

I don't think you're wrong to use what tactics you deemed necessary to get leave. I just think you're a bit warped to think that a movie is really that important.

What I don't think the idiots who wait in line for 24 hours, or more, to get tickets realize is that a week after it comes out, on a Sunday at a 1pm matinee showing, I'll have paid less than you, waited in zero lines, had to deal with non-existent crowds, not had to pick something other than Junior Mints because they were out, won't have had to put up with geeks in Vader masks carrying light sabers, and I will STILL have seen the exact same movie as you without having to take vacation to do it.

I'll say go, you demand to leave before he did. it is not your problem, he should of thought about he's kid graduation long before. and he's wife's going to video taped it.
the point is; you ask to leave on this date, you got it, go. if they wouldn't give you this date, and you really wanted that date, nobody would of trade with you, nobody. so ferk him...

The right thing to do would give him the leave. Because you can watch the movie anytime. He cant go to his offsprings graduation anytime.

Just because somebody wouldn't do it for you, doesnt mean you shouldnt do it for them....

I would give the other the guy the leave....But I also wouldnt go to Afganistan

I'm not a parent.. but in this present day american society, it seems like parents and their children spend less and less time sharing things together, and hs graduation should be part of those special moments .. especially if the kid is going off to college next year..

But if you didn't cut in front of him, then technically it's not wrong of you.. but it would be quite an appreaciated gesture if you gave your time off to the dad.. assuming he's cool and actually is a dad!

A kid graduating from highschool is no different from the same brat 'graduating' from pre-school.
Its just another way to celebrate mediocrity and evelate stuff that really doesn't matter to divert attention from the things that do.

Graduating from university/college is different as you actually have to work to achieve the passing grade, but high school is just a wank! Just turn up and hand in your assignments on time (no matter how bad they are) and you'll graduate!

Face it, anyone with 1/2 a brain can complete high school, but that doesn't mean that the halfwitts that do pass should be given some stupid graduation ceremony that really means nothing at all in the first place.

Its just like kids in school these days get given ribbons when they compete in a school sports day, even if they come last. What a great way to reduce the personal accomplishments of those kids who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
Everyone is being forced into a box, tough nuts if they don't belong there. Society sucks!
