I'm trying to put a 8.4gig HD in a compaq presario 4764. When it boots up it sayes theres not an operating system. Everything is the same on both HD's the old and the new. Any suggestion on what is causing this and how to possibly fix it? any help will be appreciated.

when doing fdisk on your new hard drive did you make the partition "active"?

Also have you INSTALLED an operating system on the new drive? is the new drive set a MASTER or SLAVE? are you using BOTH the OLD and NEW harddrives togather? Which one is set as PRIMARY MASTER? and does that one have an operating system installed?

Also, the new drive you have installed as the master must have an active partition on it from which to boot. You can check it from using FDISK and select the drive you want as master and view drive settings.

Note: You can only mark one partition as active in the system. If you need to, remove the old drive temporarily while you mark the new one as active from fdisk, then reconnect the old one as slave (You don't have to 'unmark' it active)
