The price is out of this world, and I don't think it would even go in my case. Look at the length of this monster. This is the first 512 6800 ultra I have seen.

I am happy with my X800 pro just now. Until i find a game that manages to challenge it at 1024*768 32-bit colour then i might consider an upgrade........

DId i mention overkill :p

they are just playing the numbers game. most games won't benefit from the extra memory unless you pump up the resolution. by the time you really need it, you'll have to upgrade the gpu core also.

I don't think I'll be buying one, let alone two of them. I was just shocked by the length of the card. The molex connector looks like a floppy connector on the card. It is huge.

I'm sorry, but anyone who spends money like that on a graphics card needs to seriously reevaluate themselves a little... that's just silly.

Allot of people feel that way. There are NO reviews on the card yet.:D I would say not too many folks are buying it. I am not going to say nobody will buy it. Someone will do it just for bragging rights.

It won't be me. The only real reason I posted this was because I was amazed at the size of the card. You would almost need a server case to install it.

I realise there's always the argument that "If you have the money, why not buy it?" but fair enough, if you're earning 6 figures a year, buy one, but most people aren't! I'd love a 6800 Ultra ideally, but on a student's income I consider myself very fortunate to be running a 6600GT! I love it to bits :D

More than likely only until a new version of Direct X is released which could be coming before longhorn. I was reading awhile back on Direct X and the new version isn't even supposed to be called Direct X. I can't find anything on it now. I must be searching wrong.

That is the problem with hardware. Software changes make me leary of buying anything too expensive. 1 release from MS and the card could have all the impact of a geforce 2. OK, maybe I am stretching things a bit but you could go from here and today to outdated fairly quickly. That sucks. :(

If the card would last ten years without becoming outdated it would be worth it. It will not last 3 years most likely and maybe only 1.

I want it! :r :r :x :x

Giv it about 1 month, and you'll see benches (all around)
give it about 2 months, and you'll see SLI benches
Give it about 4 months, and you'll see a new card better then it.

That's why I wanna get a 6600 pretty soon, so I can get a good year or two out of it untill Longhorn is released when I will subsequently upgrade.

About the longevity, I beg to differ. Currently one could play games such as BF:Vietnam and UTK2004 decently on a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 which is 3-4 years old. I know this because I use a Geforce FX 5200 PCI, which has defiantly less horsepower than a 4200, but more features like DX 9 and play games like HL2 and CS:S decently (800x600 at 32-bit and Med. details). It all depends on how much you ask out of your card. :t

I just want it to play at decent resolutions, at least 1024x768 and keep my framerates above 50 FPS with medium high details.

My 6800GT should be good for a few years but the way things are moving who knows?

Small Form Factor - like a Shuttle XPC for example
