Its been for the last few weeks. You may just be seeing the ads now. But as ram has increased almost 50% in price. I have been told its due to a silicone shortage. My experience is when there is too much ram in the industry it drives the prices down. If you were not aware, ram has been extremely cheep in the last number of months. They come up with an excuse to stop making it in order to cause a shortage which obviously increases the price (yes we all know the supply vs. demand theory). Ram is still expected to increase in price up until Oct/Nov '99. I guess that's when they get there big shipment of silicone!!! /forum/smile.gif

If you want an Aussie perspective - prices have been on the rise for some time now. 2 months ago 128MB PC100 SDRAM cost as little as AUD$165 - recently I've seen it retail for AUD$500.

Yes this is ridiculous! I got 128 @ $80 only a few months ago. I wish there was a way we could do something about this. Has any other idustry quadrupled prices in a matter of days and gotten away with it? $80 to $240! Come on! Anyway, have a good one! Dave

I was in shock when I saw the paper this morning. 256 meg PC100 was maybe $300-350 Canadian a few months ago. Around 2 weeks ago it was up to $640 (ouch.) As of this morning, it's up to a horrendous $900! This is getting really out of hand... I was going to buy a 128 meg chip when it came down to $100. It almost made it too... Now I'll have to wait until next year...

Well, we're not going to see any cheaper prices for a while. I found this today.

aw **** I missed that one. Think I covered all the other risks in Asian countries, but I couldn't account for nuclear accidents!

Could add another to the list:
India's general election results are due soon. That often causes racial and religious tension.
Not a big player on the IT stakes, but increasingly important and a regional power.

and Mexico!
all you can do is refuse to buy, when every one does that the prices will have to come down.
