I've been looking around for a good TV-output on a video card, so that I can play Quake2 and watch DVD on my big screen TV. However, the highest resoultion most of the outputs support is 800x600.

I found two products from Avermedia.

AVerKey3 Plus : http://www.avermedia.com/products/averkey3plus.html

AVerKey iMicro : http://www.avermedia.com/products/averkeyimicro.html

Will either of these allow me to use my TV as a monitor? I am more interested in the iMirco because I am always in 1024x768.

PLease, some wise soul guide me!

The main reason these TV-output vid cards don't have TV-Out resolutions higher than 800x600 is that most TVs only have a max resolution of 600x350 or so. I would advise against trying to use a TV as a monitor. The graphics look incredibly poor & text is impossible to read.

The main point of having TV out is to record your sessions to VCR for training, or for playing DVDs from your comp on a big screen. You will not be happy trying to use a TV as a monitor; it's great for some applications, but it looks like **** if you have to use it all the time.

Thank you so much!

I had heard that unless you have an HDTV set, your picture quality wouldn't be close to that of you monitor. Well, that could have been a costly lesson to learn!

I second that Dominus - speaking from personal experience.
