Whats "Ultra DMA & Ultra DMA 66"? It has something to do with the IDE controllers I know that. But how does it work, whats the benifits, do you need special IDE cables, how do you set it up? Thanks people!!!

It has to do with the transfer rate between the HD and the mobo... Ultra DMA has a burst transfer rate of 33.3MB/s and is supported by all new mobo's. Ultra DMA 66 is (you guessed it!) a burst transfer rate of 66.6MB/s and requires a special card or a really really new motherboard.

Hope this helps...

Keep in mind what Tigerstrike2 just said - "has a burst transfer rate," and that is not a sustained transfer rate. If you want really excelent hard disk performance I would recommend that you at least consider SCSI.

While IDE is still much cheaper than SCSI, the performance gains of SCSI, superior reliability, and the ability to chain up to 7 devices on an adapter, make SCSI the better choice.
