So who are you guys voting for? :)

MSNBC says Blair has a 10 point lead right now.

If I lived in England, which I don't, I'd cast a vote for Blair. I believe that the Conservatives would have done the exact same thing about the WMD's that they're trying to use against Blair. They're kinda like the US's uber-Republicans: if they do something there's a good reason and it was legit--if the other party does the exact same thing they're bad and wrong and making the country suffer. Two-faced.

And the Liberal Dems don't stand a chance in hell of winning that election. But in a close run they could pull votes from the Labour party and change the outcome of the election without actually winning anything.

From what i've read it looks like Blair might have it simply because there isn't anyone 'good' running against him...

JM what are your thoughts? :)

They could strap him to the front of the QE2 and use his ears for sails if the diesel ran out.

As for the election, just like everywhere else, there realy isn't much of a difference between the parties any more. They're all right wing just like in the US and Australia where the jerks who got their countries into the whole Iraq thing were returned to power with increased majorities.
Having a good alternative candidate is important and all the opposition put up are fools with their charisma removed.
I don't think anyone doubts that Blair & Co will lose quite a few seats this time around, but its not going to be like the local election thingy last year where the lib-dems really screwed things up for blair.

The liberal democrats position is what used to be the centre before ol maggie screwed things up. Since then there has been a huge leapfrog to the right to the benefit of only the rich.

The labor party in australia now stands where the liberal party (the most conservative party - australian humor perhaps) used to, on the centre-right.

And frankly Michael Howard looks like he is going to kill everybody....he looks evil I tell yas!

I found some funny reading for you all. THe BNP manifesto and their arguments against multi-culturism......i got a few laughs out of it.....sorry many laughs :p

http://www.bnp.org.uk/candidates2005/manifesto/manf4.htm

I particularly like this quote :

We therefore believe that the myth that “we are all the same under the skin” will soon be as discredited as its feminist equivalent, and that all political parties will have to drastically amend their thinking to reflect the new reality in the not too distant future.

Dont start a discussion on the pluses or minuses of immigration porsch, all of us are racially motivated, in some way or other.
Where governments of all countries which accept large numbers of migrants went wrong was by stifling debate on a national level, by calling anyone who questioned what was happening as racist.
Making people scared to voice there opinions, politicians were easy to silence by accusations of racism instead of answering the questions they put about immigration.
This has now lead to an upsurge in anti immigration all over the world.
Open honest discussion is the healthy way to go, and political correctness is the wrong way to achieving a well adjusted multicultural society.
I agree with most of the link you posted, and the native born people of the high migration countries are the least racist of all the ethnic groups now living in the UK, USA and Australia.
Not allowing marriage out of a religion is racist, not learning the language of the host country and employing a person of the same race instead of the best qualified is racist.
But most of all, look how Christians would be treated in Moslem or Jewish states or in China, if they migrated there in large numbers.
Ask yourself would they be given the same opportunities as they gave migrants moving to a Christian country, where they were housed and given social security benefits on arrival, english language courses, allowed to take driving tests in foreign languages, and all the benefits they themselves were entitled to were given and assistance was offered to integrate the new races,
The UK like Australia was TB free, mass migration has put that back 50 years, now parts of London have rates as high as they were before pennicillin.
Mass murderers from the Balkans and Rwanda and other countries slip through, terrorists use there adopted countries to plot against them, it's a can of worms now precisely because of political correctness and lack of openess.
We have enough undereducated people already without importing them, qualifications should be the only criteria for accepting migrants, with a fixed amount of humanitarian refugees.

You started the discussion not me. If i wanted to start a discussion about the pluses and/or minuses of immagration then i would have started a thread titled 'The pluses and/or minuses of immagration'

I will make this breif because you not being an ethnic minority really don't have a ferking clue about anything to be totally honest. and i draw that conclusion by your utterly stupid post.

Just because Christian migrating to other countries wouldn't get the warm welcome that Muslim or Jewish people etc. get in a christian country doesn't mean that i think or indeed it is right to treat imagrants badly.

If you agree with most of what is in the link then you are mostly racist. If the BNP party get into power then i will gladly move back to where my acestor lived. although i call scotland my home.

6. We would abolish all laws against racial discrimination in employment and the government bodies associated with enforcing them.

Abolish laws against racial discrimination right.....thats not racist at all

1. We would repeal the Race Relations Acts and all other restrictions on free speech in Britain .

Thats a great idea  then end is just BS. These BNP folk should go live in a dictatorship and see what restrictions on free speech are....

2. We would abolish all targets and quotas for ethnic representation in all areas of employment, public and private.
Fair enough, affirmative action (positive discrimination) is stupid

4. We would abolish all government-sponsored ethnicity-specific professional bodies, housing associations, and other organisations.

Why????!!?!

9. In order to make it clear that the “celebration of diversity” is something in which the native peoples of our islands can share, each of our traditional Saints Days would be made Public Holidays in the nations in question, with Trafalgar Day being an additional Public Holiday throughout the entire UK.

They just want extra holidays!

Putting the BNP in would be like having a Hitler in power....

The whole race/immigration thing is messy.

This is probably just me being callous, but I always wonder what was SO bad or wrong about an immigrants own country that made them want to emigrate in the first place.

We have people who cross over from Mexico to take advantage of the opportunities here, then have the audacity to proudly display their Mexican flag outside their house. If Mexico was so great and something to be so proud of, why are they here? The patriot stays and helps make it better, they don't run away.

I knew a guy in the Marines (who, incidentally, got beat down on a few occasions) who had a big Mexican flag hanging inside his wall locker. The epitome of inappropriate.

We give migrants subsidised housing, full health care and social security payments, with no time limit, many stay on them for many years and never contribute to the society they move to.
Why do illegal immigrants risk the perils of reaching Aust or the UK, precisely for the extra help the state gives,
What I did say was political correctness and a national debate on such an important issue as changing the national character of a country was stifled by it, and the fear of being labeled a racist, like you have just done to me without answering anything I said about the mess race laws and political correctness have made to free speech.
I agree with immigration with strict criteria that potential migrants are educated enough to participate, do not have criminal records or communicable diseases such as HIV/AIDS or TB, and whatever other diseases that are not present in the country they wish to live in.
Also the try to accept the laws and customs of there adopted country.

The best part is that once the elections are over, the Queen invites the winner over to the palace to ask who has the majority of the country's backing. They reply "Me ma'am" (or words to that effect), and then she officially makes them prime minister. What that achieves exactly (other than getting the lazy cow out of bed) is beyond me...

Yeah, I don't see the point in the tradition of getting permission from the monarchy to form a gov't from the majority party in the house of commons. What service, other than tradition, does the queen serve?

Now, see that jm? Right there. At least our elected party leader doesn't have to go to some old birth-right windbag to ask permission to do what the people have already given him permission to do.

05-07-2005, 01:17 PM
yes. But an absentee vote is easy to do, you just go to an electoral office, which are located in every area and easy to find, tell them you will be away on the election day then fill out the ballot paper and vote, if you are in the country you can go to any voting station and give your address and vote from there, you get used to it.
If you dont want to vote for the candidates available you still must vote but write your objection, or just put the blank ballot paper in the box
As long as you have veen marked as turning up to vote there's no fine.

I'm not in the mood to bash Bush right now, but he was elected into office before 911 by less than 17% of the country (51% of the 30% of people who bothered to vote).
Manditory voting would probably have resulted in a different outcome, as would using paper ballots rather than voting machines that seemed to only make errors that benefitted one particular candidate, and not the other.
A bit like how youe relephone bill is always wrong and always in favour of the telephone company, not you.
There are people that go on about making voting non-manditory, but as soon as you do that, you cannot be assured that the results really are the will of the people.
