(i know thats a lot of info but i thought it might be necessary)

Anyhow, i need to know if i can overclock, what other improvements i can make, and just exactly how safe it is. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. While im at it i may aswell tell you about this cool software i got yesterday. Its called Hare and its from daschund. It looks like one of those programs that claims to make your computer 300% faster then infects it with spyware, but its not. I thought it was obviously fake, but curiosity got me to download it. IT ACTUALLY WORKS. i used to have severe mouse lag in far cry, and now it runs fine. Im not trying to advertise this software i just think its amazing.

well i got the same video card as your... i only thing is i remove the original heatsink and fan.. i mod it to better cooling... all copper.. and i put some memory cooling for it too... compusa.com has thing that you need..

i use my copper cpu heatsink and mod it to fit on the video card.. and it so dam cool.. fx5700LE doesnt have temp sensor but i touch it.. it so cool....

without OC... video core..225mhz. in 2d and 3d mode
memory 400...

WITH OC video core 500 mhz in 3d and 400 in 2d mode...
memory the same.. i dont want to mess it up so i left it alone...

i run unrealtournament 2004 and i run it at 1600x1200 pixel and it so cool

beware.... must has good heatsink to OC your card and not getting overheat...

note: this is my experience and i am not responsible for any action that you do even if yoiu cook your card....

i only support idea.. and i am not telling you what to do.. so help yourself

Thanks for the reply. How much does one of these heat sink thingys cost and are they difficult or risky to install? i have a memory cooler thing (it might not be the same thing, it clamps over a RAM DIMM)
and two case fans (one of them definetly works, not sure about the other). is this enough cooling? what if i overclock to only like 300 or something can it still be damaged. i cant afford a new one.

any overclocking can damage the card, especially if you don't have proper cooling.

memory and gpu coolers are two different things. you can get small replacement type heatsinks, but overclocking would be better with something like an arctic silencer, zalman, or jetart. however, it doesn't seem cost effective to buy one for a 5700LE.

Arctic Cooling (http://www.arctic-cooling.com/)
JetArt (http://www.jetart.com.tw/)
Zalman (http://www.zalmantech.com/)

btw, changing the gpu cooler will void the warranty.

Why isnt it cost effective? i have overclocked it using the nvidia settings panel. i clicked on the "detect optimal settings button" is that good? does the card know whats best for itself?

I was saying why spend $30+ on a heatsink for just a 5700LE. you can try with stock cooling first, but you would get better results from a more robust heatsink.

if you are talking about coolbits, the optimal settings can give you a ballpark number, but it's not 100% accurate. you'll have to test it out to see if you card can handle it or not.

No i didnt use coolbits. It was in the menu of the display settings. I found out how to fix my case fan, but i cant do it until the weekend. Ive used up both case fan slots, what else can i do? whats this artic cooling thing i hear about?

I already posted links for arctic cooling and other aftermarket heatsinks. just click on the blue text.

if it was in the display settings, then you used coolbits. coolbits basically unlocks the hidden clock frequency settings in the nvidia drivers.

Yeah i know that coolbits unlocks the function, but i dont remember using coolbits. My system seems to be running okay with the current settings, but im not 100%. It changed my 3dmarks from 1618 to 1911, which is remarkable because it isnt overclocked much at all.

merged threads.

make sure you hit reply instead of creating a new thread on the same topic.

Oops i just made a new thread instead of replying. what do i do!?

anyway, it works i think but its overclocked very slightly. Even with that i see a good improvement. 1618 3dmarks to 1911.

Oh yeah, whats this "pipeline optimizing" i hear about. Can it help me?

not sure what you are talking about. do you have a link or some other reference? there are some cards where you can unlock pipelines, but the 5700LE is not one of those cards.

well my new heatsink look like this card. http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Showimage.asp?Mode=&Type=&Image=14-122-195-01.JPG%2C14-122-195-02.JPG%2C14-122-195-03.JPG%2C14-122-195-04.JPG%2C14-122-195-05.JPG&CurImage=14-122-195-01.JPG&Description=Leadtek+A400+GT+TDH+Geforce+6800GT+256 MB+GDDR3+AGP+4X%2F8X+Video+Card

i mean it that big and it take up to 2 of my pci slot.. but it so ... cool

Are you talking about the pipeline "optimization" unlocking that can be done through RivaTuner? If so, it's probably grayed four a reason - the FX5700 is a four-pipe design from the get-go.

And be very careful about the detect optimal settings...left to itself, it can make your card can be very unstable when pushed...

My advice... do standard incremental overclocking on your own with a subsequent battery of 3dmark testing. :D
