I formatted my new hard drive and intalled into the computer. I installed win 98 se. The computer boots up, it does the system memory count then in the DOS interface there is a box with a list of the parts in the computer like primary master/slave processor, speed and system info like ththe next lines after the box say:

EZ bios Initializing
EZ bios HOld control key down for status screen
EZ bios contimuing startup

then there is a blinking cursor a line below. THats as far as it goes. The EZ bios I think came from MAxtor, from the maxtor utility instalation disk.
I can boot off a floppy disk into dos and check the c drive, its got all of windows on it. I've even loaded DOS programs onto it and ran it.
WHat can i do?

Use the Maxtor program to remove the EZ-BIOS...

Yes it will tell you your bios is not compatible... Don't believe it, just remove it!!! Now go into bios and set all drives to auto detect type and lba mode.

Now with a Win98 boot disk (If you made one) boot the PC up. After it is up on the floppy, it will either prompt to repair the installation or not. If not, find the Windows/command directory and copy the files FDISK.EXE and SYS.COM to the floppy.

Now from the a:\ prompt, type "FDSIK /MBR" and this will write a bootable MBR to the drive. Now from the floppy type "SYS C:"

Now reboot and all should work.
