ok people, here's one for u to figure out.I just installed a HP8110 plus cdrw in my sys. and it is working really great. had no problems with the install, all went fine.However, when i boot the puter my vidio cam does not work,and the software i use for it slows down to a crawl.trouble shooting the problem i found that if i dissconect the cam from the usb port before i turn on the puter then plug it in after windows loads i have no problem, everything works fine. what gives???????????? sys setup as follows
abit bh6 fl bios
celeron 300a @ 450 1.80 volts
64 megs of samsung gh pc100
matrox g200 8 megs of sgram
ide #1 master wd8.4 w/dma enabled
slave HP8110 plus dma not checked
ide #2 master wd 5.1 w/dma enabled
slave toshiba 32x cdrom dma enabled
mitsumi 1.44 floppy
sb pci 128 audio card
us robotics 56k internal w/voice

Sounds, like a device with seniority in the call list is taking the resources assigned to the cam. Of course, that is why USB is cool, Flexibility, my friend these issues are extremely frustrating in any other case I would strip the sys leaving only PM HD Video card and floppy and then force what you absolutely need the build back around those settings. That may be the hard way but there are too many options for the computer to capture settings from I tried BIOS, Hardware, Let Win9x config, Real and protected mode, not to mention PCI 2.1 It was a giant ball of string with me in the middle. The IRQ steering is most likely your culprit. On the other hand. I may be crazy from all the time I spent on this same issue. In fact you should probably disregard this post. Livewire

Thwnx for the reply, livewire. on a further note, i found that i f after i shutdown the puter but leave the apc power backup on,the cam seems to work ok on bootup.,without having to unplug after shutdown then plug in after windows loads.......sounds strange but true.......i'll post if i ever resolve the problem
