I am working on a computer (generic) that I just wipe and reloaded the OS with W98SE. At boot time, it comes up with "Novell Netware Ready Firmware v3.15"
Press (Home Key) to chose local disk.
How do I get rid of this???:( :(

BIOS setting perhaps? Also, make sure you're on the latest BIOS release.

I would check the BIOS and also look for add in cards that could allow a network boot. Your NIC may have a boot rom on it for a netware network. You may be able to remove it to have the NIC function normally.
If it is coming from the hard disk and not the BIOS or NIC/Add-in card you can try FDISK /MBR using the 98 CD or boot floppy to see if it clears the boot record.
My guess is the NIC has the chip. We put the netware chips on all of our NE2000 cards at high school.

I agree that it is coming from the NIC.
Spend $10 and get a new PCI NIC.

I would also think it is the NIC card - except it doesn't have one. It only has an onboard NIC. I will try the FDISK procedure.:( :(

So then the Boot ROM is already installed in a DIP socket on the system board. Look closely, all parts on the board are usually labeled but may be very tiny writing.

It was an obscure setting in the BIOS. Disabled the LAN boot option and all went well. Thanks all.:t :t

Kinda thought so. Sounded similar to the PXE boot option.

1. Shift + F10 at the boot up screen.
Realtek RTL8139 (A/B/C) RTL8130 Boot Agent
Press Shift-F10 to configure .......
2. Make sure your setting match this:
Realtek RTL8139 (A/B/C) Boot Agent
Configuration Menu v2.11
Network Boot Protocol : PXE
(LAN BOOT conditions, it refers to a protocol)
Boot Order : ROM Disable
Show Config Message : Disable
Show MeSSAGE tIME : 3 SECONDS
Save this and you will not see this message anymore.

datani89 - Thanks for the advice. I will keep it in mind if I come across this problem again. The original post was 2 1/4 years ago and this omputer has long since left my hands. Amazing you went that far back but thanks.
