So over the weekend I was watching The Simpsons. Homer was expressing himself in his own coloquial way. Every time he said **** or **** or **** or **** or anything similar he'd have to put in money into the swear jar.
Which got me thinking. Probably for the past year I decided to stop caring, and basicly have developed a strain of torette's syndrome that would make a sailor blush. That only comes out when I'm alone, so thus far my public face is ok. But I really don't like having the first thing come out of my mouth is a bad word when I get angry, like when some ***** cuts me off...So I adopted the swear jar idea.
It's more of a virtual jar. I just transfer money from one account to the other, but that account I never use so I'm less likely to just spend it. Yesterday was a costly $5. Today $2. Anyone else do anything similar? Don't know what I'm saving for, but it doesn't hurt. Homer's my idol.

I have a similar system, but the money is used for replacement globes for my projector (they cost a bomb).
I'm pretty mild mouthed now compared to 2 years ago, although I still have my moments, generally in relation to the unbelieveable stupidity of the common people when it comes to their PCs and ways to abuse them!

My salary wouldn't cover the cost of a swear jar.
Holland is very " open minded" as everybody knows, and even swearing is very common on the TV and Radio. You get into the bad habit of dropping it into normal speach. Also I spent years working in the London wholesale fruit markets, and the language was always very " fruity " , and old habits are hard to kick.

Not quite sure how it will help. With a filter in place that wipes out any offending words with asterisks--problem solved. If stars are somehow offensive, maybe another symbol perhaps?
A swear jar sounds like a great idea, if you actually don't want to swear and if you can actually make yourself pay the fines. I'd never pay myself. I'd just curse myself out for trying to fine myself, then be done with it.

tantone , the use of Profanity is offensive.

The man has a point. As I recall, even manually typing stars was deemed inappropriate. Which leads to my suggestion of perhaps another symbol.

You can always use cartoon swear words. &*%@# isn't going to offend anybody.
If it were offensive Beetle Bailey would have been cut 50 years ago. ;)

The best thing to do would be to speak in clean, clear non offensive words. If you can't do that then don't post;)

I try not to swear here, for obvious reasons, but I can really swear a bluestreak when provoked:x
And I'm so poor I can barely pay attention, much less a stinkin jar:D

My nieghbors have this system with them and there kids. It is so annoying listening to them yell at each other about a swear jar, and who needs to pay.
If it is just for you then great, but a whole family thing gets old fast.
