you can use EIDE hdds. you are not required to use SATA.

Primary master = HDD

Secondary = cdroms

wouldn't it be a problem if you have a burner and it's source on the same chain

you can slave your cd/dvd to your primary master if you are doing disc to disc copies. I usually cache the files to hdd first.

your answers are half *** and not very helpfull if you can't explain clearly how it's chain then please leave it to someone else to help because your wasting my time with half answered replys ,

Thanks

how much do I need to say?

Primary:
master: hdd
slave: cd/dvd

Secondary:
master:cdrw
slave: empty

is that better? I answered the questions as direct as you asked them.

btw, it really depends on how your case is laid out. sometimes, you don't really have a choice of where you can put drives. generally, the hdds are together and the cdroms are together. you'd probably need a 5.25 bracket kit for your hdd if you expect to slave a cd/dvd to it.

if you choose to cache files to the hdd instead of on-the-fly cd copies, you can have both cd drives on the same channel.

1 sec IDE

1 pri raid

you didn't specify that. don't complain if you don't give complete information. watch your language also. some moderators won't be as forgiving as I am.

you'd need to hook up the ide drives to the raid controller if you want to create a raid array. you'll need to boot to the raid bios to create the array.

install the cdroms as masters on their own normal ide channel. it doesn't matter which is primary or secondary at that point.

ok , there is only 1 primary raid so how is it done do the 2 hardrives go on the same chain? would you be a little more explainitory on this, I had a abit which had 2 raid controllers this only has 1

you'll have to put ide both drives on the same channel. the RAID is oriented towards SATA drives, so they only give you one EIDE port. that will limit performance, but you really don't have any other options except to buy sata drives.

you never mentioned which type of raid you are running, RAID 0 or 1.

you can run raid off a single controller port. running raid on dual controllers, like your abit, is called duplexing.

it just doesn't seem right, your saying to put 2 hardrives on one controller and the 2 roms on another which makes it impossible to burn direct to one another , there has to be another way !

do you have the same board!

there is only 1 ide raid controller port. yes, it's not the best way to configure it, but you have no choice unless you decide to get 2 sata drives.

I told you to put the cdroms on the regular ide ports, one on each port. you can put the burner as the primary master or secondary master, and the other one on the opposite channel. it doesn't matter which one you choose, since they have will be on their own channels away from the raid hdds.

I'll let some of the other sysopters post now. Maybe they can explain it better than I can.

MK is being really nice about this. He must of gotten "lucky" again. ;)

Your mobo has "ONLY" 1 IDE RAID Controller. Connect 2 HDD's to it to get Raid 0 . It doesn't get any simpler than that.

And... connect the burner and cd drive on separate IDE channels as Master.

Congrats on getting a real good board. I have that exact same mobo and it has been virtually trouble free. Excellent product.;)

Hi, funny you should mention this today because I just received my sata hardrive from newegg and just installed my OS tonight and it went in without a problem also thru in my new burner from ebuyer (sony dru720a)
burnt a dvd and can't complain so far!

I see that I have to update the bios on the board ! but I'll wait a bit on that

I guess I was a little lazy about reading the manual and not knowing about SATA drives that made this post a little unbarrable and for help for me here anyway it's working Ok so far thanks for your opion on the MB

Your welcome! One of the reasons I bought this board is at the time I did alot of homework and it got five stars across the board for a good 865PE chipset with sata and all the other goodies including dual channel and you can run anuything from a 400FSB up to a 800FSB CPU. Same with memory....on up to DDR 400.

I haven't had the chnce to tyr other board makers..but ASUS are just rock solid baords.. When I got mine..I was amazed by its construction.... not a light board..and it seemed very well made( six layers if i'm not mistaken)

I've always bought asus MB when computer shows were first introduced , about a year ago I went and bought a abit board with it's xp media player ,well what a bunch of **** that was , never again,

I did a little but not much research for boards only on asus and just happened to find this one with my specks on my cpu so it had pretty good feedbacks and a reasonable price also.

you know I use to go to alot of computer websites and it use to be easy to find people to answer questions for you without hessitactions and there were alot of problems back then not like today, I find it pretty hard to get answers to any questions that I ask! these days ,
