This should be the last question I'll have to ask for a while =). I recently reinstalled Windows and now find that the modem isn't getting recognized by the system as being in its slot (it's a PC card modem, Kingmax in an Acer Acernote Lite laptop). It's sitting in the upper of the two slots, which should be COM1 I believe. I installed the driver (only a 36k .inf file) through control panel's "add new hardware". Trying to go online using DUN just makes an error message that the modem isn't connected...What sort of reasons could there be for this? What can I do to figure out what's going on?
Thanks a lot again...W Chang

Wchang99,
Have you installed the drivers for the PC-Card slot? The modem will not work unless the card slots are setup and enabled!

Thanks, that was it...The card was actually in COM2 (COM1 has a plastic cover over the pins inside for whatever reason) and COM2 wasn't yet installed in Windows.
Thanks again - WChang

I knew that one from past experiance! Had a samsung sens810 133 laptop and went about crazy until I figured out that the pc card slots were NOT installed when Windows installed
