i just built a new system, but am having cpu temp problems.when i start it up and enter the bios,it shows the cpu temps at 123c/253f ,&the temps from my ASUS pc probe also were 123c/253f for my processor(pentium 3 450,ASUS PB3-F motherboard). I installed the program waterfall, and the temps dropped to 47c/116f,and the cpu fan slowed down also.all in a matter of 2 min. If i launch a game,i guess it kicks out waterfall, because the temps go back up to 123c/253f and the alarm goes off. any suggestions?i can't see how waterfall can drop the temps down over 100f in such short time(i used it on my K-6 and it dropped it maybe 15deg F) I've never really messed with the p-2&3's,could the fan speed cause this?(fan running at full speed)because i know that the fan plugs into the motherboard, and when waterfall is kicked in the fan speed decreases with the temp. any help or suggestions would be appreciated,Chad

I have the same mobo and HAD the same cpu. Make absolutely sure the cpu is seated correctly in the slot and that you haven't enabled fan control in pc probe. Good luck.

increase CPU speed = higher temps
increase Fan speed = lower temps

If your CPU was actually running at more than 150F for any length of time, I wouldn't count on it lasting much longer!

There are 2 thing that don't mix with electronics:
1. Water
2. Heat

Your fan would have to be really moving to cool your cpu that fast!

My suggestion, turn off power management and let the fan run at high speed continuously.

Hope this helps!
Good Luck!
