by looking at the chipset, it only supports up to 2 256 PC100 sdram dimms.

Swordfish,
Aren't those links for Sony Vaio laptop memory chips? Or do you mean that both the laptop and this Desktop mobo use the same memory chips?

So, if it can only handle 512 MB maximum, do I need to be careful what "density" I get for my buddies computer? Some website rellers say Standard and Low (not hugh basically) are for older boards with maximum 512 capacity, etc. Maybe someone could please send me the best bang for the buck link from pricewatch.com
I'd hate to get an incompatible chip for his PC, thanks!! -Z

it's PC100, so it would be low density. just going by the chipset is enough. no matter what manufacturer it is, they are limited by what the chipset can do.

asus makes alot of oem "MEW" 810 boards - get crucial or kingston. 810 boards can be picky!:t

Not because it's PC100. The i810 cannot handle more than 128 megabits per DRAM chip, 128 megabytes per DIMM side, 256 megabytes on a double-sided 16-chip DIMM.

Whether that DIMM then is PC100 or PC133 doesn't matter.

what I meant was if he bought PC100, then it should be low density. if he buys pc133, he won't know if it's high density or not since some manufacturers don't specify what kind of chips they use.
