My SupraMAX 56k PCI Voice Modem Frequently Disconnects from the internet. I have updated the drivers, checked all modem settings with my ISP, the phone company has done a comprehensive check of the phone lines, and I am still getting frequent disconnects. Can anyone solve this problem? Thanks, Tom

What kind of processor/system specs do you have? My guess would be that it is a cheap Winmodem. These modem's use your system's processor instead of one built on the modem itself. These things for the most part are junk. If the problem persists then buy a new, non winmodem or you can gamble with a really cheap winmodem (OfficeMax has one for $5.00 after a MAXrebate!).

Unfortunatly, I had the same problems with my SupraMax 56K. I think it's just that particular modem. I've since switched to aDSL with no problems now, so my only suggestion, is to get a different modem, and use that one to hone your shooting skills.

How often are your disconnects? I have experienced the same problem at least once a day. Have you ever had your system ask for drivers to be re-installed? Mine does, I hit cancel then re-boot. When it comes back up it doesn't ask for it again. I am thinking that it is the modem. I have tried several other types without any problems, only they didn't get up to speed like the max does with my provider...

try setting your modem's maximum speed to the next slower speed from modem properties.

Sell it, sell it,sell it.

Buy a 3C0M v90 external modem and reap the pleasures of a faultless modem. Even if you do find out the cause of the problem it will probably be in 6 weeks time and its just not worth the hassel. There are so many different factors here and all could contribute to your problem. Some makes of hardware just dont work well with certain others and i know its the worse fault you can have .... an intermittant one. So save time and avoid the stress. Go buy 3COM
