In Canada where I'm at, they include the modem as part of the fee to get the @Home service. Here there is no advantage to owing one. What's the deal with Cox? I'm thinking of moving to the USA. /forum/smile.gif

They will sell or rent a modem to you. I was trying to keep the cost down.

Better do some serious research on cox! Around here (OKC) cox uses non-standard proprietory modems and they are a crappy service, slow, etc.
Multi-media on the other hand uses roadrunner isp and an industry
standard modem-DOCSIS (Data Over Cable System Interface Standard) which will work anywhere. Cable modems are high-bout 400 bucks? Do they charge more than $5/month to rent the modem? If so that's also a rip.Let us know what you find out. Good luck. /forum/smile.gif

Roadrunner is actualy not that bad. $100 to sign up, that gives you a NIC, instalation, and line checks, then $40/month for service, modem is always theirs, so if it breaks, they have to buy a new one. Roadrunner PRO is more, but it has a higher capacity than a T1, and is a lot less that $900.

Thanks for the reply. Cox charges 15$ a month to rent the modem. How does isdn or adsl compare to cable modems.
