I have a 350 PII, with 64 meg pc100ram, soundbaster live value card, and a magic
skywell 16 meg vid card. and have had
nothing but problems with it for the
last year, I need a title of a program
that can scan the system and tell me
what the problem is. Are there such
programs out there? if so whats the
title?

I've had everything from crashes to
flooting point errors to well everything
you can think of, I've tried windows 95b
win98 its all the same. I don't think it's
a virus, I've had norton anti-virus on it
from day one, I have formated many times,
nothing works..

First of all, I don't believe you have a PII 250. That was a typo right? /forum/smile.gif
You might try SiSoft Sandra which you can find at ZDNet's library of downloads. It's free as a standard version and might lend some help. Be aware that some of the testing modules have the capablility of locking your system. Just do the control, alt, delete ONCE and end task for Sandra. Then go back and delete any module that gives you fits or doesn't work.
Norton might have a free trial download available for System Works, haven't checked,
but it may also yield some answers.

Perhaps your CPU is overheating. Just run your system for a while with the case off & touch your CPU. If it's really warm or hot to the touch, it will cause more errors than usual. This could be caused by either a loose heatsink, a malfunctioning fan/heatsink, or a remarked CPU.

It could also be a problem with low quality RAM, though I doubt how RAM could cause FP errors.

Just check out how the CPU is cooled, and if it is very hot, you may want to look into more cooling, or perhaps an investigation into if your CPU was remarked.

Try to keep you case open and verify that the cpu fan is working properly. You might have a defective fan that stops after a few minutes. Power supply could be defective. On the other hand, make sure that you have the right driver for the video card and all the devices. Verify that there is no yellow mark in the control panel>system devices. Good luck!
