I've been reformatting and reinstalling Windows on a laptop, and with a lot of folks' help I'm almost done...Just need to get the modem and mouse working again; the modem is a Kingmax KFM5602-LF PC-Card, for which I got the drivers from Kingmax's home page. It's just a 36k .inf file but from what I can tell, that's all that modem drivers often are. I went into device manager and made sure that there weren't any other modems installed there, and then went into "Add new hardware" and installed the driver from there. At that point, Windows, while looking for modems connected to the system, didn't find the modem PC-card, which was in fact plugged into COM1 (the upper of the two slots in the side of the laptop?). The driver did install, and shows up as the current selected modem in DUN, but when I dial in with DUN, the message "The computer is not receiving a response from the modem. Check that the modem is plugged in, and if necessary, turn the modem off and then turn it back on" appears. What would be the problem there?
As for the mouse - there's always the touchpad, so it's not as important. The problem is that I've installed the disk that came with the mouse, which I believe is a set of extra utilities, as well as the drivers that now appear in device manager. The mouse doesn't work though. It has a 9-pin rectangular plug as opposed to a mini round one, and the driver is Mouse Systems Win95 Plug-and-Play, V2.18.
As an aside, Acer's website support is a disaster - the drivers they have for download for this specific model are all either only for DOS/Win3.1 or are for the wrong hardware altogether!
Thanks a lot again for any help...
