Moving files from one drive to another

I want to move files from my compressed C: drive to another drive, to free space so I can uncompress my C: drive.How do I move large folders i.e. Program Files or the windows folder from C: to another drive.

I use Windows Explorer and simply drag-and-drop the items I choose to move. Sometimes I create a new folder on the destination drive to handle the transfer.
