I recently bought a SBLIVE! value (oem version) took it home and installed it on a HD I had just formatted and then reinstalled win98 onto. After installing the card and drivers I rebooted and loaded win98. Now heres the problem. After I typed my pass to logon my computer loaded for about 5 seconds then froze. I have an AMDk6-2 350, 64megs 66mhz ram, 1.6 gig maxtor and 10.2 gig 7200 maxtor hds, a floppy, a cdrom, an hp 7570i cd burner, a V3 2000 (oc to 170), an ISA 56k modem and a FIC PA2013 mobo with the VIA chipset. Can ANYONE help me? PLEASE!!!! thanks. ::Peter Tew

Hi there,
Well I think I may just be able to help you. The problem lies with the VIA chipset and the BIOS. You see the BIOS will set up the IRQ's for the SBLive but for some unknown reason Windows won't use these values and will chose new ones. These often clash with another device and can cause all sorts of problems (crashes, hanging etc...) To stop this you need to download the VIA PCI brige driver and the VIA registery. These can be found at http://www.via.com.tw/drivers/index.htm. Firsly it may be best to remove your SBLive and boot into windows normaly. Install the drivers and then shut down. Then insert the SBLive and fingers crossed all should be fine!!!

P.S.
One word of warning, if you download the VIA 4in1 driver DON'T install the DMA HD access as Windows 98 already supports this and you will end up with Windows not booting.
