Sometimes my modem hangs-up after 1 minute or e.g. 1 hour. First I see that most of the time downloading stops and than it hangs-up.
Also more often in the busy (low cost) hours of the dutch phone company.
Any suggestions what this could be?
I think my PC and modem are OK.

is there anyway you can get a check done on you line quality, at the time of day you are getting trouble, as it could be,that your phone line is getting interferance from other users, when there are a lot of people online or speaking on phone some phone companies cut your band width without telling you, especially if you are at a certain time of the day.

I had same problem with my ISP they did not support V.90. and had to disable my V.90 option. in the Device Manager open Modem, properties, connection, advanced, in extra settings I typed S=34 This disabled the V.90 on my 3com win voice modem. maybe this might help.
