I've installed 98Se on both of my pc's one has an LX chip set and the other has a BX. Both of which with the old ver of 98 would automaticly shut off the towers when shutting down windows. But win98se just hangs after shut down logo screen and the screen stays black.

I have a similar problem intermitently...

The Windows splash screen comes up and either hangs on a black screen or pops up a BSOD with a fatal exception error. Next time it happens I'll capture the figures in the hope someone else knows whats happening.

It *appears* most common if I shutdown within 15-20 seconds of dropping my dialup modem connection, so I'm guessing my problem lies with that.

ARGH! More people with the problem! Win98SE has to die!

Okay... well, my computer was doing the same thing but appears to have fixed itself for Shutdowns, but still hangs for reboots... someone listed a program that is on the Win98 disc that is supposed to help shutdown problems, it might have actually helped me, though not sure because the shutdown started working several days after I tried the program... anyone remember what the program was?

Thanks for the pointer drdeath.

Wooo another "undocumented" feature!

Ummm except that it has it's own MS webpage/FAQ, so how, um, can it be, um, undocumented?

Go figure.

Bill Gates wants to cure polio and malaria when my PC doesn't even shutdown properly. Sheesh talk about priorities.

PS Anyone wanna be a guinea pig for a M$ vaccine? Considering previous performance of M$ products against viruses, is anyone worried?

I dunno, after you got the vaccine, you might get low on system resources or you might freeze. God help you if you get BSD'd...

Microsoft has released a patch for this issue. Go to www.winmag.com and search for it. I would find the exact link but Im a little to busy today.
