My computer has started resetting whenever I log on the internet-sometimes it does it repeatedly and other times I don't have a problem. Is my modem going bad? It is a Diamond Supramax 56K. What are signs of a CPU going bad? Mine is a Celeron 300A on a FIC VB601 MB with 64MB RAM.

You are not alone. I had a customers computer doing this exact thing. They had a Lucent LT Win modem in an IBM E3U copmuter. With great frequency they would connect to the internet and the darn system would reboot. I had not seen this before, but with some diligence you should be able to solve the problem. Here's what we did to solve it.
1. Check with you internet provider to see that your modem is compatible with their services, you may need an updates flash eeprom or a new provider, do this first otherwise It could get expensive for no real reason. Some internet providers have hardware modem pools thats send CTS sygnals before the final squelch is heard, this can cause some systems to reboot. Go figure.
2. Change the modem. Sounds simple, and probably is.
3. CHeck the power supply for dropped voltage or currrent, this can trigger an untimely reset or shutdown que to the APM.
4. finally, it may very well be your processor or MB, but unlikey, system boards tend not to cause such specific problems.
