Hello all, I'm trying to get win95a to use the secondary ide channel and I sunk all my $ into stuff other than a good video card.
I read that S3 vid cards use irq 14 and so does the secondary ide controller. How do I get win95a to loose the exclamation points in device manager for this controller?
I tried the intel busmaster driver #3.02 dated 1998 and tried changing the video drivers that shipped with win95. The chipset is a diamond something or other- should I download a Diamond driver for this card? I dont even know exactly what kind of card it is- I just know windows detects it and calls it an S3-968.
any help out there? Thanks,
David

Did the card come with drivers? If so, use them or find the most updated version.
And yes, IRQ14 is normally reserved for the secondary IDE controller. If the card & the mainboard can be set to not use an IRQ, do it, there's no sense using an IRQ if you don't have to. Beware, I know this works under Windows95/98/NT, I don't know about other OS's.
Hope this helps!
Good luck!

Thanks for replying, no the card didnt come with drivers. It came in a used generic machine, I put in a va503+ mobo in and had to keep all the old pent 133 parts.
I've been using the standard windows drivers for it. Under win98 I have the use of both ide channels, I think thats cause 98 has better busmaster support than 95. Under 95a there is a conflict.
There are other intel busmaster drivers I could use, or maybe I should update the S3 drivers? They are both old versions of drivers- I was hoping someone that has done this already could spare me some grief.
What do you all think?

In the bios? I see a page called pnp/pci config. Is this what your talking about?
Thanks

NO, No, no! You better not try to use IRQ14 for anything other than the primary hard disk controler...You probably have yellow exclaimation marks because you need the correct .inf file for the chipset ...and do not try to use Intel BMIDE drivers on a FIC VA503+ motherboard Use the "High Point" busmaster drivers, or VIA's busmaster IDE drivers that came on the CD...or you can download them here under the BIOS/drivers section www.fica.com (http://www.fica.com)
BTW, the secondary IDE controler should use IRQ15
---one more thing, there are some things on your 503+ that will not ever work with Win95a ..you're going to have to upgrade at least to the "b" version...Hey, you already have the licence for Win95 so just have a buddy burn you off a copy ---???
