Why is it that you never see any games for PC being advertised on TV or usually anything PC related besides Dell and Gateway PCs?

Because it is cheaper to let the online and print mags hawk them - not to mention more effective overall. Also those who play computer games obviously have and most like use their net connection a great deal thus it makes sense to take advantage of targetted advertising. Computer gamers use computers, so they use the computers for advertisement.

You really don't have a true online deal with consoles as of yet, thus they need to be pushed in other ways, meaning television. Their audience also has less of a chance of having net access, so less have it meaning less money will be spent on console games being pushed on the net. It still is done quite a bit as it is just too cheap for companies to ignore since there still are many console gamers who do have net access.

yes, but now many console titles are going multiplayer meaning that a larger audience is getting internet access as well to play those titles online.

On a funny Side note

did you guys ever read the news about Advertising inside YOUR GAMES!!

yup yup, i've seen quite a few of those already

but now is becomeming more and more popular

specially in driving games, and sport games

you can see real advertizements from real businesses

but it'll be funny to see a game like Halo (in another planet, in another space) an ad of say McDonalds :x :r

or can you imagine Doom3 killing a monster carrying a sign for FORD :D

The in-game advertising is getting larger and larger. Software companies are seeing a larger percentage of their profits coming from the ads. It doesn't even have to be that blatent. I think Matrix had ads in the form of a soda machine sitting there that you walk by.

Not true. I've seen Pirates of the Carribbean, Raven Shield, Call of Duty, and a few others advertised on TV.

I usually only catch PC game ads after they've been ported or if they are going to be ported to the PC from another platform. Generally it being a PC game is mentioned as a side note to it being an xbox or PS2 game. I don't think I've seen one just for the PC though - then again, I don't pay attention to them much anyhow.

I always see them... A game gets advertised, and at the end of the commercial, you see all the icons on what platform it will be available on. You'll see either the playstation logo, xbox logo, gamecube logo, or the black&white PC logo. Or any combination of them.

you also notice that the logos arent there very long, a second at the longest before the commercial is over

That is a fair enough question and one that stirs up some serious thought.

Some PC gamers seemed to be advertised alolgn with the PS2 and XBox consoles (both..) ,but youre right ..not many for PC.

Probably has to do with the neverending demograqphics thing and that kids and teenagers..more than likely have some form of console and also does it not figure that you are using a TV versus a PC??
I think this is more the point.

This way since you are watching and have a TV ..you are more likely to go purchase a console to play it on....

Very shrewd marketing strategy.;)

I really never see commercials for exclusive PC games either. As someone said earlier, I only see them after it has been ported XBOX or PS2. Again it has to do with the demographics of the people watching the stations. PC gamers (not gamers who play the likes of Solitaire, but real PC gamers who play UT2K4, HL2, WoW, etc.) make up a minority of gamers period. There are defiantly more players who play console games, so the amount of marketing toward those people are inherently more.

Whats kinda weird is the big games like Half Life 2 and Doom 3 were never once advertised on the television. However, everyone man and their dog that gamed on their PC’s knew about these releases…how they were late….when they were being released etc. etc. That’s the reason why PC games aren’t advertised.
